Freelance Creative Grant Writers

Have you got experience in writing successful arts and culture funding applications?

Want to help advise other creatives in their grant writing practice?

Creative Colchester are launching a free Funding Clinic for network members at different stages of writing funding grants.  We are looking for 3 experienced freelance grant writers from a variety of backgrounds to advise network members who have signed up for a advisory slot on their funding applications.  These could include Arts Council Project Grants (NLPG), Developing Your Creative Practice Grants (DYCP) and a variety of others.

Each hour-long session would be structured around the needs of each member who signed up (network members will be asked some brief questions when they apply).  Sign ups may be at an initial stage of an application and may wish to discuss the initial ideas for an application or further on with their grant, requiring you to prep by looking over their draft application.

It would of course be made clear to network members that there is no expectation of application success through working with one of our advisors, but that they will advise to the best of their ability and within their experience!

What are we looking for?

Obviously, there are no degrees or qualifications in grant writing, but things we’d like you to think about whether you have are:

– A proven track record in successful grant writing, particularly in Arts Council England schemes such as National Project Grants and/or Developing Your Creative Practice Grants

-Knowledge of recent changes to funding application forms and a familiarity with current structures

-Knowledge and experience of other funding streams including local grants, trusts and foundations

– An understanding of the arts and cultural funding landscape, particularly local cultural strategies and wider national strategies including Arts Council Let’s Create.

– An interest in developing new creative work and creatives who may be applying for the first time

When would the sessions take place?

Ideally, you will be available for 3 sessions to be agreed (Proposed dates currently 9th April, 8th May and 11th June but these can be discussed with successful applicants).  Each session will be for 3 hours, likely 10am-1pm (where you would see 3 network members) in a central Colchester location.

Fees

The fee, covering 3 x 3 hr sessions and any prep time would be £750.  Advisors would be working in a freelance capacity and would therefore be expected to deal with their own taxes.

Interested?  Please fill out this application by noon, Thursday 22nd February.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Interview chats will take place in the w/b 3rd March.
